Alasdair Beal
Alasdair's flair for problem solving has won him plaudits throughout the profession. He has dealt with a wide variety of engineering issues, from domestic subsidence claims to structural problems, fire damage, landslips and floods. As well as mainstream structural and civil design in the industrial and commercial sectors, he has acted as expert witness in a variety of cases and has won awards within the industry for his innovative solutions to preserving our structural heritage. His restoration of Owston Hall following a major fire received a Doncaster Design Award and he won a national Historic Bridge Award for the stabilisation of the Seven Arches Aqueduct.
He has had numerous technical papers published in professional journals plus papers presented at conferences and meetings. He has been involved in research on concrete column design at Leeds University, served on the drafting committee for the IStructE publication 'Recommendations for Permissible Stress Design of Reinforced Concrete Building Structures' and on the IStructE Codes Panel.
