This is an exciting £60m development for Crest Nicholson to the east of the market town of Farnham in Surrey. The mixed use re-development incorporates commercial, residential and leisure uses alongside an underground car park.
Aside from the normal engineering duties, Thomasons has been responsible for undertaking a flood risk assessment for the site. Much of the site falls inside the 1 in 100 year floodplain and as such, a major challenge associated with the project was achieving sufficient flood plain compensation on site to satisfy the Environment Agency and all other parties involved. Complex negotiations resulted in the development of a suitable strategy involving re-contouring of the soft landscaping alongside the incorporation of other design features.
The development complies with the Code for Sustainable Homes; which stipulates a 75% decrease in rates and volumes of surface water run off produced on site. This reduction was achieved by the combined use of attenuation and infiltration features.
Thomasons was involved in the planning process; assisted in producing the environmental impact statement and managed the geological and contamination investigation.
