Cranleigh School, Emms Centre
Cranleigh School’s new £6.5M Academic Centre houses the schools Sciences, Maths and Modern Languages faculties.
At the heart of the two-storey building is a 16m high atrium, with clear spanning roof and cantilevering staircase.
The primary structure is a steel frame incorporating cross laminated structural timber panels for the roof and some of the walls. The timber provided benefits of speed and strength whilst being economic and environmentally friendly.
The project received a Commendation at the Association for Consultancy and Engineering (ACE) Awards 2009 and also at the Institute of Civil Engineering (ICE) Awards 2009 and The Waverley Design Awards 2009.
