Marlborough College, Wiltshire

Thomasons was appointed by Marlborough College as civil and structural engineers for the College’s prestigious new swimming pool facility. The £3.0m project encloses a 25m x 18m, 8-lane swimming pool, with an innovative pool floor that adjusts to varying pool depths to allow the pool to be used for a variety of water sports, or to be sectioned off to facilitate multi-use swimming and water sports activities. Thomasons was responsible for the design of the pool as well as the enclosing structure.

The curved roof structure houses extensive new changing facilities and reception lobbies to cater for the pool and adjacent all-weather, multi-use sports pitches. The excavations for the pool were monitored by local archaeologists as part of the planning requirements, and historic findings in the ground were recorded and removed as works progressed.
