Riverside, Hemel Hempstead
Thomasons was appointed as civil and structural engineers for this prestigious town centre redevelopment for Crest Nicholson Developments. Involved from the initial scheme stages in 2001, Thomasons was then novated as part of a Design and Build contract to Balfour Beatty. Construction commenced in January 2004 and was completed in December 2005.
The £35 million project consisted of the demolition of existing buildings and the construction of three new buildings and their associated infrastructure. Thomasons undertook the infrastructure design and the detailed design of the new buildings. The infrastructure work for the scheme consisted of three new pedestrian footbridges, a new bus station, two new road bridges, the required roads and new and diverted drainage networks including any attenuation. Particular consideration had to be given to environmental aspects due to the high water table and the River Glade passing through the site. The complexity of the works was increased by the need to work within a busy town centre.
