B&Q Manchester

B&Q’s warehouse in Trafford Park, Manchester is the company's largest retail development in Europe at a cost of £7M.

Thomasons Health & Safety was appointed by Peel Holdings as CDM Coordinator.

Thomasons had previously been appointed Planning Supervisor for remediation of the site which formerly comprised Barton Power Station.

The former power station was demolished in the 1960’s leaving substantial structures below ground including 7m deep basements forming part of the original turbine hall. During a £1.5M remediation of the 5 hectare site, 100,000m3 of fill material was excavated, sorted, graded and crushed. Contaminated material was treated or removed from site and suitable graded material used to create a level site.
