Delivering innovative, award-winning civil and structural engineering solutions: Thomasons brings exceptional design to the construction industry

Forensic Investigations

Detailed investigations are routinely provided by Thomasons when determining the cause of defects in buildings, structures or sites.

This experience is used by our Forensic Investigators, who work across many disciplines, to explore technical matters in greater depth to establish facts that determine the sequence and definitive cause of critical events. This culminates in the production of high standard reports presented in readily readable non-technical language.

Thomasons forensic advice is impartial and as such is respected by our clients and aids conflict resolution, although can also be used in litigation matters.

Thomasons’ recognise that professional knowledge alone is not sufficient to prepare a suitable report. Our forensic investigators are however trained by leading experts that work across many disciplines. The technical direction, professional knowledge, experience and skill are provided by experts with the Forensic Investigators assisting the instructed expert to produce reports of a consistent high standard of both technical and non-technical language, style and, where appropriate, compliance with the civil procedure rules.

The Forensic Expert’s role often includes:

  • Desktop research/review of submitted papers
  • Research in to design/construction standards
  • Forensic recording of construction and/or failures/defects
  • Record photography during demolition, dismantling or opening up etc.
  • Reporting including story boards demonstrating event sequence.
