The re-building of this 5-storey terraced residence was carried out soon after completion of major alterations to the adjoining property. The shared wall between the properties – the party wall – had been underpinned as part of the works carried out to this first house, in order to raise the ceiling height and extend the living areas at basement level. The neighbour’s later works benefited from this underpinning but required it to be underpinned still further. All of the party wall was exposed and required temporary protection.

Thomasons were appointed by the first building work owners to agree all the party wall issues, both for their own works and for their neighbour’s subsequent development. The work included calculation of the amount that was rightfully recoverable from their neighbour for use of the original underpinning.
