International Trade Centre, Wirral Waters

Client: The Peel Group

Value: £175 million

Thomasons has been appointed by The Peel Group as civil and structural engineers on the 250,000m2 International Trade Centre (ITC) development that offers trade retail accommodation within the Wirral Waters Scheme.

The four ITC buildings, comprising a total investment of £175m, are based on former ‘brown field’ dock land. Thomasons is responsible for overseeing the current site remediation, performance specification of the ground improvement, foundation design, design of the steel frame, Flood Risk Assessment and drainage design.

The design of the steel frame has been undertaken looking at overall frame efficiency utilising frame spacing and spans that minimise section size and weight. This has been undertaken considering multiple options for support of the upper storeys including vierendeel trusses spanning between portal stanchions and support off thickened concrete ground slabs.

Design of the below ground drainage system has considered the use of SUDS, although die to the close proximity of the dock water has not been required in this instance.
