Weir Minerals are a global manufacturing company, with industrial production facilities in six continents. Specialist process pumping equipment is provided to the mining, aggregates, and general industry sectors. In the United Kingdom, one of the main manufacturing facilities is located in Todmorden, West Yorkshire. This site has been an ‘ironworks’ since the late 1800’s and the tradition of steel foundry working continues to this day.
Thomasons have provided structural and civil design services, along with project management, contract administration, building and quantity surveying services, delivering a number of successful projects for this prestigious client. The complex and hazardous nature of the foundry works along with difficult geotechnical constraints of the site, has required intricate project management of live construction projects in the middle of a fully operational facility.
From feasibility, through the conceptual and planning stages, through to procurement and delivery, Thomasons have provided high-quality solutions for a variety of projects such as manufacturing facilities, storage facilities, welfare blocks, car parks, traffic plans. Working with selected sub-consultants, Thomasons have led a multi-disciplinary design team, providing services such as Structural and Civil Engineering, Architecture, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, Geotechnical Design, Flood Risk Assessment Evaluation, Light Design, Health and Safety Advice, while remaining competitive with costs and proactive in delivery.
