Liverpool’s Royal Court Theatre adds to its collection of awards
We’re delighted to hear that the renovation of Liverpool’s iconic Royal Court Theatre – a project for which Thomasons is acting as structural engineers – has won a Civic Trust Award, which recognises excellence in architecture, design and sustainability, as well as positive community impact.
This follows a major award as Building Project of the Year at the British Construction Industry Awards 2016 – and the project has also been shortlisted for a prestigious 2017 RIBA North West Award, for which winners will be announced on 24th May.
This Grade II listed art deco theatre, dating back to the 1930s, is being modernised in a long-term project, with Thomasons working in a team that includes architects Allford Hall Monaghan Morris, project manager Modero and M&E consultants Steven Hunt Associates.
Act II of the renovation involved creating a new foyer extension to the theatre, new box office, improved lift access and a first-floor terrace.
Thomasons is also involved in Act lll of the project, which starts in May 2017 and includes the addition of a new 150-seat studio space.
