Norton Priory Museum scoops a second major award
Norton Priory Museum in Runcorn has won the accolade of ‘Small Visitor Attraction of the Year’ at the Marketing Cheshire Annual Tourism Awards, in one of the most competitive years to date.
Thomasons was responsible for the structural design related to the redevelopment of the museum, which is located on a site designated as a National Monument. Engineers designed a structure to link a Grade 1 Listed undercroft with the 1980s museum building. Innovative solutions were needed to overcome the complexities and restrictions of working on this sensitive site.
The annual Marketing Cheshire awards celebrate excellence and outstanding achievement by local businesses and individuals that contribute to Cheshire’s visitor economy. The project will now go forward to represent Cheshire at the national VisitEngland Awards for Excellence in 2018.
This is the second recent award for Norton Priory Museum. In October, it won a prestigious North West Structural Award from the Institution of Structural Engineers, in the most sustainable project category.
