Successful restoration of Wigan apartment building
Thomasons has successfully completed a major project to restore Wharfside, a six-storey apartment building in Wigan, following a devastating fire last year.
We were appointed by Symphony Housing Group to project lead the restoration of the building, where 44 apartments had been destroyed as a result of fire damage on the upper levels and water damage to the floors below.
After ensuring temporary stability of the building following the fire, our engineers oversaw urgent repairs to the apartments next to the fire-damaged wing so that residents could move back in as soon as possible.
We then oversaw the careful dismantling of the affected fragile timber frame and fast tracked the phased reinstatement, by carrying out the structural design work at the same time as tendering for the main building fabric repairs.
With the damaged wing now totally restored, the building has been saved from demolition and all the residents have returned to their homes.
